New Things!

Well folks, it's been a while hasn't it!?  I've got a slew of updates, some of them very recent and some that are quite old but never been brought out here.  Or anywhere for that matter.  Almost all of them are work-in-progress, but still worth showing I think.  Enjoy!

This piece is intended for my game art portfolio.  It's all high resolution modeling right now, but map baking and texturing is coming up very very soon.  I've not really done a sci fi env piece before so it's been a lot of fun!

I recently (as in for the past year or so) got into Heroes of the Storm and instantly found myself drawn to one Arthas Menethil.  The Lich King's iconic Helm of Domination is simply too cool for me not to attempt a nice looking sculpt of it.  Can't wait to finish it!

This was a side project from some time ago, mostly to experiment with Blender's fur system and rendering fur in Cycles.  It's supposed to be something akin to what you might have seen in the Narnia movies, aka Reepicheep. A learning experience!

Another labor of love, these axes are featured in Final Fantasy XIV.  Well, most of the are I believe. The dragon axe, the one textured in the left image, I don't think made it into the final game.  At least not yet.  Either way, super fun projects and I plan to create game resolution versions of them for my game art portfolio.

What can I say, I still enjoy cartoons.  Japanese cartoons, more often than not.  This project was from quite a long time ago, some 6 years or more I believe.  But it was a fun experiment in creating low resolution models and textures!

Digimon Model

I stepped back into early adolescence for this model - back to my Digimon days!  This was just a project I worked in my down time to stay busy practice a little bit with Blender's rigging system.  Everything was done in Blender - modeling, sculpting, retopo, rigging, posing and rendering.

Chuck E Cheese 2012

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work on the Chuck E Cheese 2012 re-design as a modeler and texture artist. I textured Chuck's guitar as well as the first pass on Chuck himself. I also modeled a couple props that are seen in two of the spots - a lock, a key, and an inkpad. It was lots of fun and I think it turned out well!

Nova Progress

She's fully textured, and I'm creating a rig for posing now. The end is in sight!

Toph Sculpt

So I've been really getting into Avatar: The Last Airbender lately; I missed the show during its original run, but thank goodness Netflix carries it! It's definitely one of my favorite cartoon shows of all time, and one of the only cartoon shows that I feel is genuinely entertaining for me as an adult viewer - completely independent from the nostalgia of childhood memories. But anyway, Toph is my favorite character and I thought it would be fun to do a 3d sculpted interpretation of her. My main goals for this sculpt were three: 1) Get it done fast (i.e. before the end of the week [09/16/2011]), 2) Capture her personality via facial expression and 3) Figure out a way to make sculpted hair look good. It was fun, looking forward to coming up with a new sculpting idea :)

Newt Speed Sculpt

It's a shame this movie will never see the light of day. It sounded really cool, but Blue Sky beat Pixar to the punch, in terms of concept at least, with their similar film Rio. But at least we got to see some of Pixar's always excellent concept art, and stuff like this is gold to modelers for practice material. This took about 3 hours from start to finish.
